Private Tutorials
All of the regular programs at Aim High are taught as private tutorials. The programs are provided for students who are having difficulty in school or would just like to improve their reading, language or math skills. These are one to one teaching sessions that give students the attention focussed on individual learning that is lacking in the large classes of the school system.
Classes are 1 hour in length and attendance is recommended at least 2 times per week in order to see projected gains. The available times are from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday to Thursday. Fridays are available to students who will study 3 times per week.

Regular Programs
Reading
The Reading Program at Aim High Learning Centre is based on the curriculum developed by Michael Maloney called Teach Your Children To Read Well. It is a series of books that takes you from learning the alphabet sounds (Kindergarten) up to fluent reading of more advanced material.
Teach Your Children to Read Well
K - Grade 2 - - Book 1A and Book 1B
Grades 3 & 4 - - Book 2A and Book 2B
Grades 5 & 6 - - Book 3
Grades 7 & 8 - - Book 4
At each level the students will have direct teacher instruction, work through a reader as well as do workbook exercises. It is important that all material is reinforced at home through practice, practice, practice.

Reading Comprehension
Aim High Reading Comprehension program uses the SRA series of books written by Engleman to help children establish a good understanding of the written word. The program approaches text with a series of questions that each student will answer. As children go through the program they develop the skills that are necessary to get the most out of any written passage. They learn such skills as deduction, inference, classification and recitation. All skills are continually practiced throughout the program so that they become second nature to the student.

Aim High Spelling program will teach the basics of spelling through the use of rules and patterns. Students will learn through memorization and repetition. Aim High uses the Teach Your Children to Spell Well program as well as the Spelling Mastery program materials along with the model - lead - test approach. Spelling Mastery focuses on sound letter association and helping students to sound out what they hear and what letter combinations make which sounds.
For higher level spellers Aim High uses Spelling Through Morphographs. This material dissects words, teaching them in parts. Spelling rules are memorized and practiced helping students to feel confident about their spelling.

Scrapbooking Days
At Aim High we want children to be able to preserve their memories. On Scrapbooking Days children can bring a set of pictures (summer camp, birthday party, a certain age, etc) and make a scrapbook. Children can also arrange with their friends to have a scrapbooking party (min 6 children) at Aim High. You can schedule your own party at your convenience ( 4hrs ).
JK & SK Reading Circle (Summer Program)
The Reading Circle was developed to provide Junior and Senior Kindergarten students the opportunity to learn the basics of reading in a fun and enriching environment. Children who participate in this program will be able to sound out words and will expand their reading vocabulary immensely giving them good preparation for school.
If your child is a non-reader this program is for you. It teaches children the skills and the confidence they need to become great readers. Groups of 2 to 5 are accepted or your child can study 1 on 1 with the teacher.
