Research studies show that 60 % of learners will learn to read if provided with minimal instruction and an environment that provides the tools to learn. But what about the other 40%? What do they need? After many years of study and research Michael Maloney and his associates have developed a curriculum and a method of instruction that guarantees success for any learner. It is a combination of direct instruction, precision teaching and behaviour management.
If your child is struggling in school it may be because he or she has not developed a solid base of reading and math skills that are able to carry him/her to higher levels of education. Join Aim High and put your child on a path to higher learning.
Aim High Learning Centre started out as a dream to help children and adults learn the necessary basic skills to succeed in educational pursuits as well as life.
QLC Educational Services of Belleville, Ontario directed by Michael Maloney, author of a best selling book called Teach Your Children Well, as well as winner of the National Literacy Award was the starting point for Owner/Director of Aim High Learning Centre.
Following in the footsteps of Michael Maloney, Darlene Adams stepped up to the plate and began a centre based on the principle that every child can and will learn if given the proper instruction. Using Direct Instruction, Precision Teaching and Behaviour Management children and adults are taught each set of skills to fluency. The progress is measured and recorded so that any weak areas can be identified quickly and modifications can be made to ensure total sucess for the learner.
As of July 1st, 2007, Aim High will be offering a summer school program, a JK and SK reading circle as well as individual tutorials. In the future Aim High intends to incorporate more programming for adults who want to complete their high school education as well as develop a Kindergarten that caters to Asian Canadian Families who desire for their children to learn to read and write in both their native language as well as English.
About the Director
Aim High Learning Centre was inspired by a dream to help children. Owner and operator Darlene Adams has worked with children in different capacities for over 20 years.
Darlene has a Master's in Social Welfare and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She has worked with children in inner city camps, literacy programs, educational programs, recreational programs, orphanages abroad, classrooms, as well as with Children's Aid. Through this vast experience Darlene has learned that children need to be given the chance to succeed. Often times children do not learn because they are not being taught. Darlene believes that it is the responsibility of adults to make sure that children learn.
By opening Aim High Learning Centre Darlene Adams is helping children overcome obstacles in their lives that are caused by a lack of basic skills and making herself responsible to the children of Waterloo Region.
